The world’s first hotel designed and fully developed by Giorgio Armani

MARHABA ARMANI

Giorgio Armani and Mohamed Alabbar marked the opening of the first Armani Hotel last week in Dubai. Located in the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, an 828-metres tall flower-shaped skyscraper designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, the hotel is conceived as a 360-degree experience into the Armani lifestyle, and features 160 luxurious rooms, including suites and studio rooms, all embodying Armani’s classic and sophisticated aesthetic.

The second Armani Hotel will launch in Milan next year, while new developments – from residences to resorts and hotels – are planned in Marrakech, Marassi, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai and London.

JULIEN MERCIER IDENTITY DESIGNER

Julmeme is Julien Mercier, a Swiss Graphic Designer living and working in Tokyo since 2006. After studying Graphic Design Communication in Geneva, he moved to Japan in order to explore a new design and mix Swiss typography with Japanese kanjis.

Since then he created those beautiful invitation for LV and Dior, as well as some great brand identity, flyers and graphic design work.

Tracey Thorn new album: LOVE AND ITS OPPOSITE

Tracey Thorn's third solo album, Love & Its Opposite, is out May 17, and capitalises on the critical acclaim of her 2007 release, Out Of The Woods, a mixture of hard-edged dance music and folk fare which bridged the gap between the acoustic and the electric.

Love & Its Opposite finds Tracey and producer Ewan Pearson stripping things back to more organic essentials, embracing a retro sound that references the type of music she would have grown up listening to. Thorn is in pensive mood for much of the album, which is as much about her own experiences as a forty-something trying to make sense of her life as it is about the relationships of others, resulting in a mature and often cynically humorous set of songs that’s sure to be embraced by her stalwart fans.

Artist Uses LEGO Blocks to Rebuild New York City

The colorful toys are being used as real-life building blocks.Artist Jan Vormann took a team of volunteers across Brooklyn and Manhattan as part of the VOLTA artshow to fill in the blanks with the building blocks of our childhood.

All the Legos used in the project were donated from the Lego Graffiti Styles Convention in Munich. Vormann trolled New York for missing bricks, crumbling facades and plaster cracks and filled them in with the colorful blocks. The result was a striking reminder of how worn down so many New York City buildings are. With limited resources to fix the buildings facades the cracks and dents become a part of the city scene.

The team of volunteers that Vormann gathered ranged from ages 3 to 40 and helped him plant Lego surprises everywhere from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. Vormann’s New York adventure is part of a larger artistic endeavor called Dispatchwork. He’s been to ten cities around the world filling in the cracks with colorful Lego creations. This modern art project is a great exploration of unconventional function.

CONSTRUCTED STYLES - LEGO BRICKS MEET URBAN ART

A completely new interpretation of urban art will be on display throughout May in systM. The Constructed Styles exhibition presents the combination of LEGO models tagged with works from some of Berlin’s best known graffiti artists.

Street artists such as Cole Blaq, Orion Pax, color paint, Acid79, Chill, Baks, Diablo, Pley, Riko and THESIGN are the ones who have been responsible for redecorating the synthetic, plasticy facades of the miniature models with more luminous colors and lettering.

The 10th volume of the series, which began almost 10 years ago, comes along now at the beginning of a new decade. On the first CD we find the selections of Michel Gaubert and Marie Branellec, 17 pieces that are not alike but which nevertheless complement each other and successively tell an intense and rich story in a convoluted manner, like an "exquisite corpse.” From Gary Numan to Caribou, Michael Nyman to Koudlam, without forgetting the new MGMT.

On CD2 Jamie XX the beat maker of The XX gives us his "carte blanche” mix, he is the third member of the group, who at just 18 years old has been able to give body and soul to songs from the trio’s first album by inventive production and arrangements. Also author of several remixes of a totally new crossover genre, and producing himself a music that blends dubstep and garage, his mix for Colette is a reflection of his approach to Beatmaster production.
