FRENCH MILK BY LUCY KNISLEY

French Milk by Lucy Knisley is a graphic travelogue that recounts the daily delights of a trip to Paris. A mother and daughter celebrate their 50th and 22nd birthdays while renting a flat in Paris for over a month. This is the illustrated journal at its finest; Knisley uses her craft to take us along in her suitcase. The comics are occasionally broken up by a few photographs. Do not expect any great revelations or inspired plot twists: it is what it is, a simple yet detailed memoir in pictures and words. It's enough to make you wish your first time in Paris was this long and lovely. Avalible at Amazon.

Downtown From Behind - Downtown de Costas

Casting the lens on NYC's backside, Downtown From Behind stands out from among the fashion-blog mayhem for its altogether unconventional spin on this increasingly standard form of style photography. The newly-launched site showcases back views of bicycle riders on the streets of lower Manhattan, creating "an environmental portrait for each street and its subject."

The upshot of photographer Bridget Fleming's effort to document the 200-plus streets of Manhattan located below 14th street, Downtown From Behind showcases an eclectic cast of individuals ranging from local architects and designers to stylists, decorators, musicians, artists, hoteliers, chefs—anyone who has an impact on their specific downtown neighborhood, be it through their profession or just by living in the area, Fleming notes.

Despite her subjects' faces not being visible, Fleming's particular brand of photography is revelatory in an entirely different way—the surrounding streetscapes not only convey a sense of where they are, but their belongings also tend to indicate where they're headed. The approach further reinforces the connection between subject and destination, such as the shot of designer Frank Alexander balancing a massive bouquet of flowers over his shoulder, or chef Andrew Carmellini of Locanda Verde captured with a whole baby pig strapped across his back as he pedals his way to his soon-to-open restaurant, The Dutch. The compositions are particular and make a lasting impression without falling back on devices of typical figurative work.

Downtown From Behind also encourages "green awareness through cycling," partnering with philanthropic organization Little Ambitious, who lends support to young inventors and designer using sustainable processes.

Com as lente nas costas dos Nova Iorquinos, Downtown From Behind se destaca por focar-se totalmente para uma forma não convencional dos padrões da fotografia. O recém-lançado site apresenta a vista das costas de ciclistas nas ruas da Lower Manhattan, criando "um retrato ambiental para cada rua e suas pessoas ". For their new ‘Minimal-Baroque’ eyewear capsule S/S 2011 collection Prada hired three up and coming illustrators – Marcela Gutierres, Andrea Tarella andIvo Bisignano, to do their sunglasses lookbook, hand picked by Miuccia Prada herself.

For her previous Prada eyewear project ‘Prada Swing’, Miuccia Prada launched an online Manga competition online open to all, in which the participants were asked to illustrate a fantasy heroine wearing Prada Swing glasses in a comic strip, with the winner’s design becoming the lead character in a Prada publication.

Para a sua nova mini-barroca coleção capsule SS 2011 de óculos, a Prada contratou três promissores ilustradores - Marcela Gutierres, Andrea Tarella andIvo Bisignano, para fazer o seu lookbook de óculos escuro, escolhidos a dedo por Miuccia Prada si mesma. Para sua coleção anterior de óculos, Prada Swing, Miuccia Prada lançou um concurso online de Manga aberto para todos, em que o participantes foram convidados a ilustrar uma heroína usando os óculos Swing em uma história em quadrinhos. O design vencedor tornou-se o personagem principal de uma publicação de Prada.

Google Art Project

Google Art Project, the new ad-hoc project developed by the search engine, was unveiled last week. The idea reflects very well one of the key points that Google philosphically seeks: organising all the information available and make it accesible to everyone. In this case, Google has focused on the art world to start a new trend. The project is quite compelling and pulls together the art work of various museums around the world.

All the museums that have signed up for the project have made many paintings are scuptures available. Many items are featured with extra descriptions, high resolution photos and detailed information about the artist. However, the art work is limited and not everything will be accesible. Some paintings are, for example, blurred due to copright issues. Since the content made public is pretty comprehensive, Google has even produced a visitor guide to make the learning process as easy as possible. Furthermore, you can also create your personal collection using the featured art works available and share it with your friends and family.

A idéia reflete muito bem um dos pontos-chave que o Google procura filosoficamente: organização de todos as informações disponíveis e torná-lo acessível a todos. Neste caso, Google tem incidido sobre o mundo da arte para iniciar uma nova tendência. O projeto é bastante atraente e reúne o trabalho de arte vários museus ao redor do mundo. Todos os museus que aderiram ao projeto têm muitas pinturas são esculturas disponíveis. Muitos itens são apresentados com extras descrições, fotos em alta resolução e informações detalhadas sobre o artista. No entanto, as obras de artes são limitadas e nem tudo será acessível. All the Buildings in New York is a project by James Gulliver Hancock where he will attempt to draw all the build ings in New York in one year. The project started way back in April of 2010 when the artist moved to New York from Australia. Since then he has amassed quite the collection of architectural works of art, which were actually created as a collaboration with The Design Files during a guest blog appearance.
