Roll Resistant Coke Can Concept

For years, the popular method to freshen the appearance of soft drink cans was to clad them in eye-catching graphics. Since every beverage maker uses the same shape of can, designer Dzmirty Samalthought there was room for improvement in the physical design of beverage cans. His new concept for a Classic Coke can does away with the typical round cylinder shape in favor of a more faceted look.

Rather than use the traditional cold forming manufacturing process all cans undergo today, Samal’s concept makes use of a forming process called impact extrusion in which aluminum is pressed at a high velocity into a mold. Besides having a unique look, the faceted sides could make the can easier to grip and would prevent the can from rolling when placed on its side.

Special thanks to S.
